Memorials

The final resting place of cremated remains is an extremely important decision and careful consideration should be given to all options available.

To help with this process The Oaks Crematorium can hold the cremated remains for up to three months free of charge, allowing you time to think about how you wish to remember your loved one.

We have a number of peaceful and tranquil areas within the grounds for you to choose a fitting memorial, including landscaped memorial gardens, a woodland glade and memorial mounds.

There are a variety of memorials available at the crematorium.

The Book of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance is a permanent memorial with a page for every day of the year, within the Book of Remembrance room. Made from the finest handmade paper and richly bound in leather and gold leaf, the names of your loved ones are commemorated by skilled calligraphers.

Personal text, motifs, designs and badges that are significant to your loved one or family can be added to enhance the entry. Our skilled calligraphers can work from photographs to recreate an image of a family pet or to reflect a favourite hobby or interest.

The book can viewed daily and is open on the current day’s date, so any memorial entries made can always be seen on each anniversary.

Stone memorial orbs

Our stone memorial orbs are a beautiful alternative to a traditional urn and are designed to be kept outside and blend in with their surroundings. Each stone memorial orb can hold from one to four sets of cremated remains. The cremated remains are placed in to special caskets which in turn are then placed within the orb.

Using natural Cumbrian limestone, the stone memorial orbs are designed to weather and age to create the established look of ancient stones amongst the various plants and flowers.

Each orb comes with a granite memorial plaque with gold leaf inscription for your personal tributes.

A flower holder and vase can also be ordered for floral tributes, complementing the style and look of your chosen orb.

Interment memorial

Some of the stone orbs within our range have a unique feature of holding cremated remains. A special steel casket within the orb can hold from one to four interments, dependent on the size of orb selected.

Remembrance memorial

It is not a prerequisite to inter cremated remains into the orb. They can also be used as a remembrance memorial for your loved one’s scattered cremated remains, regardless of whether this has taken place at The Oaks or at another location.

Woodland memorial orbs

Crafted from sustainable timber and natural windfall sources from woodland locations nationwide, each woodland orb is unique, providing an original memorial.

As the orb becomes established within the woodland it will become home to mosses and insects, contributing to the wildlife and health of the woodland environment.

Each orb comes with a granite memorial plaque with gold leaf inscription for your personal tributes.

A flower holder and vase can also be ordered for floral tributes, complementing the style and look of your chosen orb.

What our clients say...

  • Truly beautiful and peaceful. Wish I lived closer as I would choose this location for my own cremation, the focus on environment and wildlife is wonderful. During our service the peacock was walking in the garden, and then joined by a pheasant and magpie, a welcome and unexpected distraction and a reminder to that nature carries on regardless. Thank you…
