Baby Loss Awareness Week
On the 15th of October, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity (SANDs) brought together families from across Hampshire
The event at The Oaks Havant Crematorium was to remember babies who were taken to soon.
The flower courtyard was lit up with pink and blue solar lights whilst the SANDs choir sang in memory of special their babies.
Everyone who attended was given a tea light lantern and these were placed around the water feature throughout the evening. The Bereavement Care team, a free support service provided by Southern Co-op, gave out teddies for younger children and memory pins for anyone else who wanted one.
At 7pm everyone stood in silence whilst the names were read out and we took a minute to remember and reflect.
Families were able to feel comforted and supported by others who have experienced a similar situation.
Emma Connors, Head of Crematoria and Burial Grounds, said: “The service was beautiful, in the most tranquil setting. Thank you to Lee Callaway and Paula Slape from The Oaks for supporting the event, providing refreshments and making sure the team from SANDs had everything they needed on the night.
“We are extremally proud to have been able to support them in such a special memorable service.”
The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity is a national charity in the United Kingdom that provides support to anyone affected by the death of a baby.
